Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce Job Description Job Title: President/CEO…Executive Director Reports to: Board of Directors Date: March 2010 Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Management, Marketing or related field required. Minimum of five years experience at a managerial/supervisory level. The Executive Director must possess current knowledge of administrative practices including Accounting, P&L Management, Human Resources, Marketing and Business Development Programs. Demonstrate strong knowledge with direct experience working with, or on, Volunteer Boards and Committees. Extensive communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written. Demonstrates progressive leadership and advocacy skills Demonstrates strong collaboration, negotiation, problem solving and analytical skills. Proficient using a computer. Summary The Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the Chamber by working side by side with the Board of Directors and/or other management, to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies. The Executive Director must demonstrate the ability to be an energetic, forward-thinker and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image. Equally crucial is a strong and comprehensive knowledge base along with extensive experience in high level decision making/analytical skills/problem solving. The Executive Director is responsible for creating, living, managing, and fostering a culture of high ethical standards. Essential Job Functions 1. Acts as chief and executive officer of the Corporation or Corporations with the authority and responsibility necessary to operate the corporation in all activities and departments. 2. In collaboration with the Board of Directors will develop, execute and monitor an operational plan that is consistent within the direction of the strategic plan and its’ priorities. Meet all budgetary projections. 3. Launch the new Insurance Program for membership by taking a leadership role in development and execution of the introduction of the service. Grow the Insurance Program into a viable, sustainable and profitable business venture. 4. Develop, implement and monitor a Chamber Membership Plan that is reflective of the Strategic plan and its goals and grows the membership base. 5. Build and implement a strong Marketing and Development Program that will insure the growth of the Chamber. This may include overseeing grants, preparing grant applications, supervising staff in execution of the grant and other community outreach programs that may be necessary. 6. Is responsible for developing communication mechanisms that will keep the Chair of the Board, Executive Committee, overall Board of Directors and its members apprised of matters pertaining to the Chamber of Commerce. 7. Provides administrative support to the Board of Directors. Responsibilities may include but is not limited to: • Preparation of notices, agendas, meeting minutes of the Board and its committees. • Signing instruments affixing any seal to all instruments requiring the same, which the Board has authority to execute, except in cases where the execution shall have been expressly reserved by the Board or delegated by Board resolution, bylaws, or by statute to some other officer or agent of the Corporation. 8. Is responsible for representing the strategic/visionary leadership of the Chamber, and its members, as it relates to serving as a liaison with various economic development and workforce boards, county/town/city governments as well as representatives of state and federal government. This may include but is not limited to: Participating on various community boards, maintaining positive and collaborative relationships that will allow for the advocacy of the Chamber always realizing member’s needs. 9. Responsible for managing, mentoring, coaching, developing and rewarding staff. Also responsible for recruitment and termination, as needed. This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the Executive Director will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate Chair of the Board, Executive Committee and/ or Board of Directors.
